Enrollment Periods

The ICEP is the period during which an individual newly eligible for Medicare may make an initial enrollment request to enroll in a Medicare Plan. This period begins 3 months before an individual turns 65 years old and it ends 3 months after turning 65 years old.

The AEP election period will begin October 15 to December 7 of every year. During the AEP, members may enroll in or disenroll from any type of Plan. If you enroll during this period, the effective date of your enrollment will be 01/01.

The ADP happens every year from January 1 to February 14. During this time, Medicare Advantage members may choose to disenroll and return to Original Medicare and enroll in a Part D Prescription Drug Plan.

Special election periods constitute periods outside of the usual IEP, AEP or ADP when an individual may elect a plan or change his or her current plan election.

Special Election Periods may apply:

• When a Medicare beneficiary changes residence and moves out of the Medicare Plan’s service area.

• When a Medicare beneficiary has both Medicaid and Low Income Subsidy.

• When a Medicare beneficiary is institutionalized in a nursing home or long-term care hospital or if they are moved out of such facilities.

• When a Medicare beneficiary gets extra help paying for Medicare prescription drug coverage.

• When a Medicare beneficiary no longer qualifies for extra help paying for their Medicare prescription drugs.

• When a Medicare beneficiary recently involuntarily loses creditable prescription drug coverage.

• When a Medicare beneficiary leaves employer or union coverage.

• When a Medicare beneficiary belongs to a pharmacy assistance program provided by their state.

• When a Medicare beneficiary, plan ends its contract with Medicare, or Medicare ends its contract with the plan.
